Fairy Ring, a "not-so" Magical Experience for Your Lawn

 What is Fairy Ring?

A circular area of grass that is darker in color than the surrounding grass that will sometimes produce a natural occurring ring of mushrooms.

What causes it?

It is caused by soil that has inhabited fungi. The fungi lives off of decaying root or organic matter in the soil and causes a ring to appear.

What are ways to reduce the appearance of fairy ring in the lawn?

1. Fertilizing will cause the rest of the lawn to green up.
2. Removing any organic material that may be buried inside of the soil. This includes, tree roots or wood scraps that have not decomposed.
3. Thatch or aerate your lawn to eliminate thatch build up.
4. Apply a fungicide to suppress the fairy ring.
